Brighton, 2015 to Casa Timiș, 2027
Our Story
Twelve years, one doorstep, two twins and a great deal of Eurovision.
How we met
A housemate interview
We met in Brighton in 2015, on the doorstep of 11 Wyndham Street. Diana, Ioana's best friend at the time, was moving in that day, and Ioana had come along as backup, on the sound principle that nobody should meet a new housemate unaccompanied. Zak was assessed and, on balance, cleared. Diana will be at the wedding, which seems only fair.
A month or so later, newly together, we adopted the Sidewinder as our pub. Cracking quiz, and reasonably priced by Brighton standards. It lasted us a matter of months, because Raphaël, now Zak's best man, got thrown out for failing to produce ID and then, instead of going home like a normal person, snuck back in. A sore loss. We're calling him out here because he'd do exactly the same to us.
Eight and a bit years in
Otilia and Sasha
Eight and a bit years after that doorstep, we welcomed Otilia and Sasha. They arrived together and have been the loudest thing in the house ever since. At the wedding they have jobs: the rings and the flowers. They will also, without question, be the loudest guests in the room.
Ten years later
Same doorstep
Ten years to the day after that first meeting, Zak proposed in exactly the same spot, outside the same front door. Ioana said yes, and was generous about the staging. Two years on, we get to do the rest of it in front of you.
We've been in the UK the whole time and live in Lindfield now, all four of us, just up the road from where it started.
The other thing worth knowing about us is Eurovision. We host a party for it every single year, and this is not a passing interest, so consider this fair warning. It'll be played at the wedding, almost certainly past the point of good taste. And thank goodness it has stayed such an uncontroversial business all these years: a simple song contest, no politics anywhere near it, and never once a cross word between neighbours.
Why Romania
Why Casa Timiș
We love wine, Dealu Mare is our favourite Romanian region, and there's a spa. Mostly, though, it's an excuse to show you a country we think is a gem. It's a long way to come for a party, so we didn't want to ask you for just an afternoon. Come for the whole weekend and we'll feed you three days running.
